Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve have different rhythms. Here is what to decide beforehand, how I manage service and what happens in your kitchen.

A Christmas dinner at home with a private chef can mean the person who usually cooks is finally able to sit down. Some homes still depend on one person to make Christmas Eve happen. After days spent cooking, they barely have time to sit down. When someone enquires about a private chef for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve in Madrid, I begin with a question about who ought to be sitting at the table, rather than what should be on the menu. The rest follows from that.

For a private chef at home in Madrid at Christmas, the plan must reflect the particular day. The two evenings have different characters. Christmas Eve is about family and often runs late. New Year’s Eve has its own, slower pace as midnight approaches. They deserve different plans, not the same dinner with a change of table linen.

Dates: 24, 25 and 31 December, and 6 January

Alongside those two evenings, many families gather for lunch on 25 December and Three Kings’ Day (6 January). Each calls for a different approach: earlier dining, younger and older guests together, and often a shorter menu. If you have more than one date in mind, I suggest discussing them together so dishes are not repeated and service arrangements can be agreed at the outset.

The earlier I know your date, the more scope I have to consider the menu, ingredients and practical arrangements at home. The proposal sets out the conditions for each day.

Five details matter: the number of guests and how they will sit; the kitchen and equipment available; children or older relatives and when they should be served; dietary requirements; and drinks. You need not decide everything before enquiring. A date, place and guest count are enough for me to begin.

Before confirming, I look at the kitchen and the route to the dining room. A well-organised domestic kitchen is entirely suitable for this kind of service. What must be planned in advance is the space needed for plating.

For me, the measure of a successful Christmas Eve at home is simple: I leave the kitchen as I found it.

How the evening unfolds

I arrive with ingredients prepared and the timings already agreed with you. Service begins at the time you have chosen. Between courses, there is no unnecessary movement around the table. Conversation can continue uninterrupted.

For New Year’s Eve at home, I time the final course so everyone is seated at midnight and nothing remains to be done in the kitchen. Afterwards, I clear away the service and leave the kitchen tidy. The host need not get up to check on anything.

Traditional dishes or a contemporary menu

Some families want familiar dishes handled with greater precision: slow-cooked stocks, a roast at its best, seasonal ingredients treated simply. Others want something different. Both are possible. What matters is that the menu belongs to the household and the people gathered there.

I propose the menu with your family’s traditions in mind, alongside anything you might like to change. Essence offers five courses for a more restrained table. Vanguard has eight courses for a longer evening. Atelier is for occasions that do not fit a set format. You can explore all three under Experiences.

Prices

Essence starts from €135 per guest + 10% VAT; Vanguard from €195 per guest + 10% VAT; Atelier is priced to each project. Guest numbers, ingredients, travel and the conditions attached to the date affect the final figure. Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I enquire?

The earlier, the better. It leaves time to discuss the menu and check availability. With the date, location and number of guests, I can tell you whether the service is possible.

Can you cook in a domestic kitchen?

Yes. I inspect the kitchen and the route to the dining room beforehand. If anything essential is missing, I address it before the evening, not during it.

Can the menu accommodate children and guests with dietary restrictions?

Yes. Please share allergies and dietary requirements in advance. I review them before confirming the menu, as not every preparation can be adapted safely.

Do you provide the ingredients and leave the kitchen tidy?

I select the ingredients myself and leave the kitchen tidy once service is finished.

Can I book more than one date?

Yes. Discussing Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and Three Kings’ Day together makes it possible to coordinate the menus and agree the arrangements at the same time.
